What do you mean by Architecture?

When we talk about website architecture, we’re talking about the fundamental technology and construction of the website, the tools used to build it and the way in which it has been configured on the technical level.

Arguably, I could have just called this “Technology”, but that doesn’t start with A and so doesn’t fit my “A,B,C” approach.

Picking the architecture and technology to run your website

If you’re serious about SEO, then you will want your website to have a Content Management System (CMS) under the hood. Without this, you’re going to have a hard time updating your own content, and being able to add and update content to your website is essential – never leave yourself in a situation where you need to ask a third party to do this for you.

There are lots of content management systems out there and new ones are created with surprising regularity. Given that more than 99% of what happens on the internet is people downloading and reading/watching/listening to something, you’d think that we’d have nailed down this technology by now but, like a lot of things, exactly which CMS is right for you is going to depend on your own requirements and tastes.

For that reason, I’m not going to recommend a CMS, but I will give you a list of minimum features that any CMS that is serious about SEO will include.
